Midsummer already and we have arrived home just as the weather has started to perk up. Judging by my water butts they have certainly had a LOT of rain. We certainly did well to escape on our holiday. Garden photos will have to wait until we’ve had chance for a bit of a tidy up. This morning we were straight out to do our usual Georgian house volunteering. Very few customers so I spent my time creating Georgian style beauty patches for a future event at the house. The things I do :). This afternoon we had a quick unpack before heading out to stretch our legs. After two days journeying it was definitely needed.
Well done to Rosemary for guessing Montecute House. I have to say it’s one of my favourite NationalTrust properties built in the late sixteenth century at the height of Elizabeth the First’s reign. For once we were allowed upstairs too, thanks to the very wide staircase being covid safe. It would have been sad to have missed their extraordinary long gallery at the top of the house. The perfect place to exercise on a rainy day. A bonus too as there were a few portraits on show from the national portrait gallery. My favourite was one of Elizabeth First by an anonymous artist from about 1586. On the first floor the magnificent library. Another room I could feel quite at home in.
It’s time to cook tea and I’m looking forward to the first of my homegrown courgettes in a pasta sauce. May even have some homegrown strawberries for pudding. The garden is doing well despite the rain. Have you started eating from the garden yet? Anything delicious?
