10 BREAD ALTERNATIVES TO TRY IF YOU WANT TO CUT DOWN ON CARBS

10 Bread Alternatives to Try

So, you’ve decided to cut down on carbs to help you lose weight and be healthier. Well, you will need to cut down on bread, and this is really possible, because there are so many bread alternatives.

Ok, we hear you…But, but, but – BREAD?! But bread is so tasty!

However, as Beauty and Tips will show in this article, there totally is life after bread.

If you’re wondering what to eat instead, let’s take a look at these…

10 Bread alternatives to try if you want to cut down on carbs:

Lettuce Wraps

The thing with bread alternatives is that you’re going to have to get pretty creative here.

For example, instead of traditional bread-based tortilla wraps, how about going for lettuce wraps instead?

Lettuce wraps might not sound quite as exciting as tortilla wraps, but they’re super healthy. They contain barely any calories and barely any carbs, and they also give you a shot in vitamin C and K.

Plus, you don’t need to do much to make a lettuce wrap – it’s basically all done for you.

Ham Wraps

Not too keen on the idea of lettuce wraps? You could try ham wraps instead.

A ham wrap is an alternative to a traditional, bread-based tortilla wrap. You wrap your vegetables and condiments up just the same, but instead of using a tortilla wrap (or a lettuce wrap), you use a ham wrap. Simple.

A ham wrap is super low in carbs, super duper tasty, and they’re really easy to make. So get to it!

Butternut Squash Flatbread

Butternut squash flatbread is a fab alternative if you’re trying to cut down on bread and carbs. It still allows you to enjoy your meals with buns and sandwiches, but it’s grain-free. Awesome.

Alternatively, you can also go with sweet potato flatbread, too. Both are healthy, mouth-watering ways to get your “bread” fix.

Cauliflower Rice

We know what you’re thinking:

  1. What the heck is cauliflower rice?
  2. How does it replace bread?
  3. WHAT THE HECK IS CAULIFLOWER RICE

Cauliflower rice is actually really easy to prepare, and it makes for a fabulous alternative to normal rice (rice, of course, is heavy in carbs).

How does it replace bread, though?

When you mix cauliflower with eggs and almonds, it turns into a fantastic pizza base.

The result is divine. Try it!

Cloud Bread

Cloud bread already sounds amazing, right?

It makes you think of soft, pillowy clouds.

And imagine eating a cloud?! Delicious …

Cloud bread is actually something that you make at home. It’s gluten-free, and it’s a great alternative to the bread you usually use for sandwiches, pizzas and burgers.

It’s simply to make, too. It’s essentially just a combination of cream cheese and separate eggs.

It’s low in calories, low in carbs and well worth trying.

And just think: The next time you make a sandwich for your bread, you can woo them by telling them that their sandwich is made from cloud bread!

Use Almond Flour

Okay, so let’s say that you do decide to make traditional “bread” at home because you literally can’t help yourself and you’re addicted.

However, instead of using white flour, why not go for something that contains a lot less carbs instead?

For example, almond flour.

Almond flour can act as a great alternative for your bread. It contains very few carbs, but it’s also rich in good fats. It also contains vitamin E and magnesium.

It shouldn’t be too hard to find either. You can shop for it online or look for it in your local health food shop.

And once you start using it, we reckon you’ll never go back to white flour every again!

Portobello Mushrooms

Are you craving a hamburger?

Or maybe you want a delicious chicken burger with mayo today?!

One snag: The burger bun is made out of bread.

Nooooooo!

But it’s totally okay because we’ve got a solution: Instead of using a traditional burger bun, use a portobello mushroom instead!

Simply slice it in half and use the top half for the top half of the burger bun, and the bottom half for the bottom half. Eat it open-faced and it’s going to taste amazing.

Plus, it’s different.

Oh for sure, it’s totally different. To literally anything you’ve had before!

Eggplant Slices

As you’ll have already noticed, if you want to eat bread alternatives while still eating your usual bread-based meals, you have to get a bit creative.

And now you’re about to get even more creative.

Instead of using burger buns or portobello mushrooms, why not go with eggplant slices instead?

The thicker the better, of course. All you need to do is grill them with a dash of olive oil and they make for the perfect partner with your burgers.

Delicious!

Plus, they contain very few carbs.

Use Greens To Make a Sandwich Bowl

Ever eaten a sandwich bowl? Gorgeous.

But now that you’re not eating bread, you can’t eat a sandwich bowl ever again. Sad times.

But hang on a minute, we have an idea …

Instead of using burrito bowls as your foundation, why not use greens instead? Then, you can add your proteins on top of them.

Chicken Breasts

If you want a protein wrap (and who doesn’t?), why not use tender chicken breasts?

All you need to do is pan fry them for a few minutes and et voila – you’ve got some really tasty, protein-heavy bread alternatives on your hands.

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN BREAST DINNER.

Do you know other bread alternatives?
