Lecrae says Jesus Is King is Kanye's favorite album in terms of content.

The Christian hip hop artist offers his thoughts on West's newly released ninth album.

Lecrae talked about Kanye West's new album , Jesus is King. West's ninth album, the project is centered on the artist's faith and religion. Although West has always spoken of his faith in his music, his recent performances have been viewed with skepticism by critics who believe he is doing this to redeem himself in the public eye after having a controversial 2018. “Kanye is such a polarizing figure and his movements create negative effects on culture, especially music,” he said. Lecare also said that while 'Jesus Is King' is not his 'Kanye's favorite album in terms of musicality', it is his 'Kanye's favorite album in terms of content'.

Lecrae added that Kanye's religious epiphany is certainly a positive step in the hip-hop community and how fans of the genre can perceive Christianity. “Many times people can't imagine people from the hip hop community finding Christ,” he said. “We see this very Americanized Western Jesus and not a Middle Eastern man who can relate to the struggles that usually affect us. So this may be an opportunity for more people to see that we love Jesus. People could see themselves in Kanye and therefore see themselves as followers of Christ.

"There are a lot of reasons outside of music that people have for not liking the album," he said. “So of course there is a Kanye fan who wants to hear the subject they can relate to. When a person negotiates misogyny and self-glorification, speaking of Jesus in all stripes, this ensures scrutiny and disappointment. Finally, people will have their subjective opinion of the music and are entitled to it.

“You look like a person excited about your new relationship with Jesus. I'm in favor of that, ”Lecrae concluded.
